5-drawer jewelry box. Cherry, curly maple (love the sweep of the figure to match the leg curves), blodwood pulls inlaid with sterling silver. Hand cut dovetail drawer joinery. Shellac and oil finish. Inspired by others … hand built by the grey headed WW. 🙂

This is quite a stunning piece. Beautiful design and it has great flow to it. I'm guessing you'll be on the short list. Great job.
David, you have really created something wonderful here. I too enjoy building boxes and search out ideas to incorporate into my own work. This box is stunning. The design work on this box has to be recognized as exceptional. Everything flows smoothly. The curves added to the rectangular box complement the piece in a unique way.
I do not write many comments on other peoples work, but upon seeing your piece I felt I had to congratulate you. I score this a 10.

I see that you haven't lost your touch, amazing work as always. Your old friend Jeremiah from Free State, take care.
Great form and lines (like a dancer).
Beautiful work!
Thank you all for the kind comments ....... your words feed my spirit.
I truly enjoyed creating "Dancer" ..... she took a long time to evolve ..... with lot's questions along the way about 'what is right'.
If you design your own work you know what I am trying to say ...... the challenge lies in keeping parts in porportion to the whole ..... not just size ..... that is easy ..... but 'feel' ..... the 'feel' of a piece is very difficult to pull off for me.
Your kind comments tell me that I have achieved that with this piece. Thank You for them.
Jeremiah ..... good to hear from you. Do a Google search for David Charles Knipfer and send me an e-mail ..... would like to catch up and see how your timber selling business is going.

Awesome design, very artistic.
I knew him before he became famous!!
Hey, Dave!! It still amazes me! An absolutely beautiful work of art.
Beautiful workmanship and stunning design. Dancer has my vote and envy!
I am familiar with & own a piece of Dave Knipfer's handiwork - of which every peice is a work of art. "Dancer" is among his finest.
When I saw the promotional page for the contest I saw the photograph of this box. I said to myself, "Self, that is a Dave Knipfer box." I had to come here and check.
Dave's work is that unique that you can recognize it in a whole room of boxes.
If you can get Dave involved in a philosophical discussion about design and woodworking you are in for a real treat. Dave is a one of a kind woodworker and I mean that in the highest manner.
Dave, thanks for sharing "Dancer" with us.
Best of the best. All details are so precise, everything is in proportion, and the craftsmanship is out of this world.
Dave, read your comments on my posting this morning. I really appreciate the support. I've been feeling kinda crummy about what happened. Anyway, I've been eyeballing Dancer since I opened this web page up the first time. I told my wife as soon as I saw her, she is the winner. I hate it we're restricted to 5 pictures because I would like to see the rest of her. I did find that choosing five pictures is more than just looking at a box. The 5 you choose have to portray the way you feel about your work, you know? You have to show where the work was, and the time spent not only on the labor but the but the thought and reflection that went into it. Mine wasn't built for a contest per say. My work, as does yours, has to be pleasing to me and if someone else enjoys it, that's just an added bonus. Best Wishes for Dancer.
Thanks for the encouragement. Lane Hall
Dave, looks great I can't wait for the Dancer's partner
Very beautiful piece! The flow of it is perfect. I checked out your website and saw many more beautiful pieces. Amazing job!
Wow ..... I am humbled by your kind words and comments. Thank you all for them ....... your words feed my spirit as I struggle amongst the sawdust to build something of value.
Tell you the truth ...... I hesitated to enter anything into this contest ....... but decided after a long internal debate to show a few photos of "Dancer".
Your kind and generous response to her has me both fired up and humbled ........ I can't believe that over 800 of you have given her a 'thumbs-up".
I am a part-time WW with a passion for creating little boxes ..... just like many of you ..... work comes first and WW is after the family goes to bed. :)
Here is another truth ..... I am never in 'competion" with any fellow WW ...... I will glady share whatever I know with anyone ....... the true competiton is with my hands as they struggle to create what I can see so clearly in my minds eye.
"Dancer" ... as you see her ..... is just one example of my evolution as a WW ....... better to come I hope.
I have lots of photos of "Dancer" creation ....... perhaps they might make a good short-story lesson for some of you?
I share what I know .....
Whatever happens with this FWW 'contest' .... I give my thumbs-up to the winner and hope to stay in touch with anyone who has been inspired by my work.
Thanks to all for you kind words and "thumbs-up".

David,
David,
David,
Sorry about that…tried to write, computer screen blanked out and next thing I know it posted twice. I just wanted to thank you for your very kind comments you left. I truly don’t believe the skill comment though:-) Do you know how many times I stared at “Starburst”…countless!! I have almost worn that book out. You have been an inspiration to my work and I am sure many others out there share the same thoughts.
I will contact you on your website!
It’s been an honor,
Jeff
This creation has such unique quality that it has taken on an identity that it's name only partially conveys. The design and execution seem to be expressions of the wood itself....a dream of immortality defined. I would love to see this work in person for I feel the color and tone may belie an even greater experience.
Dave, I know this piece must give you a wonderful sense of expression completed.

We're done here ... the contest is over tonight.
I tip my cap to whomever is the 'winner' ..... IMHO we all win by having the opportunity to view such an outstanding range of work.
My personal thanks to the 950 people who gave "Dancer" a 'thumbs-up' ..... your support feeds my spirit.
Last thoughts from me ...... I have seen many wonderful pieces in the past few days ..... and know that many of us can benefit from sharing what we know ... and the challenges we face amongst the sawdust.
The FWW "Knots' forum is one way to stay in touch .... and I will as well reply to any personal e-mail sent to me.
Do a Google search for David Charles Knipfer ..... and send me a message.
I do hope to stay in touch with .... and share as I can ..... any of you who share my passion for little boxes.

Dave,
Kudos on Dancer. I have been commissioned to build a dresser by a brother-in-law who has given me great creative lattitude for the project. Upon viewing your box Dancer, I was inspired to use the concept for a "full size" "box". I haven't yet worked out my variations and proportions yet, but will give Dancer "bibliological reference" when I've completed the project. Thanks for your inspiration.
Absolutely amazing. One of the best pieces I have ever seen. Certainly has inspired me.
This is an elegant, inspiring piece. The quality of the design and execution are first-rate. Thanks for sharing these photographs.
Hi David!
Looks great as usual...
Have you started making boxes again?
