I built this box as a thank-you for a lady who was my son’s teachers aide in elementary school for 5 years. The box is constructed of black walnut with a red oak panel for the lid. I always love the way walnut and red oak look together. The front is a bent lamination, the stringing is maple. The compass rose inlay in the top is shop made of African blackwood and maple. This box presented a few challenges, mostly related to the curves, but in the end the recipient was pleased.

Wow! Beautiful Work, I bet the teacher's aid was ecstatic!
This is so beautiful. Excellent design and workmanship.
Wow, this is beautiful work. The inlay on the front and sides is something that I have used before because I really like the look it gives. I also really like the way walnut and red oak look together.
I am really curious about how you created the star inlay on the top, though. It looks far beyond my current skill level.
