“Outside The Box” was completed in early February and was inspired from a Tony Lydgate design. I wanted to give it an oriental look, thus the angled and elongated corners on the top plus the tapered legs with brass trim. By eliminating the conventional sides from the box, the normal constraints were removed and the resulting design freedom allowed the drawers to pass completely through the box and also at right angles to each other. The legs and the drawer rails being exposed, became valuable design elements. “Outside The Box” is made from Wenge, Zebrawood and Brass. “Gateway” the companion piece set on the top, is modeled after a gateway to a Shinto Temple and supports a stained glass “gong”.

I really like the design and the details. This is a terrific piece.
I wonder how the "gong' sounds. I've experimented with various coiled gongs, bells ,rods etc. for my clocks. I admire your wonderful imagination in this design! Often wish my mind could see outside the box. Thanks for showing.
