Huntboard
This is a project, based on Garrett Hack’s Huntboard, that I started back in January with my dad on a long weekend he came up to visit. It was a great project; from hand picking all the wood from a specialty wood supplier, to the 80 hours we put into on that first weekend (all in all we put in about 200 hours of work). My wife picked out the design while I was searching for something to make on Finewoodworking.com. We used curly cherry for the body, curly quarter sawn sycamore for the drawer fronts and door panels, ebony for accents on the top, doors and drawer pulls. We finally decided on quilted sapele on the top with cherry around it with a ebony inlay (we had also looked at carpathian elm for the top, but in the end the sapele won out).
This was by far the most rewarding project that I have competed in my 5 plus years of woodworking and have to say that with out the inspiration from this site I would have never been able to do it. i also lucked out to have wife with impeccable taste and a dad with over 35 years of woodworking experience to help me out.
