This began with John Kassay’s great “The Book of Shaker Furniture” and the need for something to fit next to a sofa. Second photo is from the book. I modified proportions to fit the space and added design elements to exercise my skills. For something like this, joining the top and sides with dovetails seems a bit much, but I wanted to try it. Side cornises ride on sliding dovetails to accomodate seasonal movement. My first attempt at that, too. All’s well that ends well, it’s still in one piece.
