Rock Star Bat Dresser
My brother and I made this out of beautiful grained solid quarter sawn oak. It has ebonized (not painted but dyed) walnut legs, inlayed reeds (top and drawers), and bat wing corbels. The 5 inlayed bats and 1 inlayed key escutcheon are solid ebony just under 1/4″ thick. The custom designed mahogany knob were hand turned, shaped, sanded, ebonized, polished, and finished. The sides are bookmatched planks. The drawers were swooped to leave room for the center support. They are solid oak with a finished birch ply bottom and doweled with ebonized walnut. Extremely sturdy and they all open smoothly and easily. It is finished all the way around and looks great from the front or back. Everything was hand sanded to 320 then 0000 steel wool rubbed, hand rubbed oil on all the quarter sawn oak, then coated with several coats of lacquer and hand rubbed between each coat. The top drawer has a skeleton key lock. We have a combined total of 110 hours into it.
