Shakers certainly didn’t have entertainment centers, so this one is at best “Shaker-ish.” It’s based on the observation that opening two-door entertainment centers often reveals a big mess inside – CDs, tapes, DVDs piled helter skelter. This one lets you open on one thing only – TV, audio gear, CDs, DVDs or VHS tapes – or more if that’s what you need. The carcass is made of birch veneer plywood. Doors, drawer fronts, cornise and footing are basswood. It’s pickled white so that its mass doesn’t overwhelm the room. The cove profile of the cornise was achieved by making many passes at an angle across the table saw blade, raising the blade a little more with each pass. Instead of Shaker knobs it uses flush nautical brass pulls. That’s because protruding knobs couldn’t work with the pocket doors.
