I salvaged these pine stair treads for an 1870s farm house that was going to be demolished. When a customer sought a unique humidor from me I suggested these boards would do the trick.
After removing the paint and ground-in dirt, one board had interesting figure. I re-sawed it and used it symmetrically for the front of the door.
In the side view you can see the external part of the discrete catch I designed to hold the air-tight seal on the door shut and to avoid a catch detracting from the front of the door.
The old-growth pine has such lovely color I left it natural, finishing with a wipe-on poly / oil blend.
The customer was very pleased with the final product.
