1.75 carat emerald cut workbench
I made my new bench out of quarter sawn african padauk. The top is 10/4 thick, with a nearly 4 inch apron. This represents my first forray into vise construction. The tail vise is solid honduras rosewood dovetailed to padauk. I made the guides from cocobolo and believe it or not, no wracking. The face vise is curly maple with cocobolo guides. Both vises employ a simple screw as a drive mechanism. The square dogs in the front apron are lignum vitae with cocobolo springs. An old cast steel stop is mortised into the top. This bench was financed with the proceeds from the sale of my ex-girlfriends engagement diamond. I was sure to make the bench on the same level emotionally, to ensure that it never leaves me.
