This is our (former) dining table from reclaimed maple I got from a company in West Virginia that specializes in disassembling old barns and salvaging the lumber and timber. The wood was about 100 years old when I got it. Some pretty rough, some nicely figured, but *all* hard and tight grained — it was formerly the floorboards! Took a toll on my 6″ jointer and portable planer, (just one nail…) but they’re both still alive 7 years later! The table was designed to seat 10 for large family gatherings — two can sit at each end thanks to a 12″ overhand and 44″ width. Overall length is 92″. As it was all 4/4 material, the legs were glued up from 3 pieces, and I doubled the top for about 6″ at the ends for a more substantial look. This was my first large furniture project; I learned a lot, and have certainly progressed a bit since then! This table is now the project center in our studio, as it is too large for the little dining room in our “new” 100-yr old Oregon farmhouse!
