The wood for this bench came off the streets of Brooklyn, NY. Ash, White and Red oak, and even walnut. The walnut were two 3x5x8 skids of a pallet left for the trashman. The vises, of course, just makes things work better. Fun to build and fun to use. Built on a shopsmith in a garage; New York space is hard to find.

As utilitarian a workbench can be, you've created a fine piece of furniture. I'd be afraid of scratching it! Very nice job. Did you work off of plans? I too need to build a workbench. This would be a great one to own.
You made a great looking workbench. Solid, heavy, and attractive.
What brand and who sells the pattern maker's vise? And, do you recommend it?
Thanks

Wow, that's beautiful. I've managed to scavenge some 2" ash and oak from pallets but what stroke of luck to find walnut. The rest of the top looks like 2" as well, was it all from pallets?
Nicely done, I like the walnut with the oak. Great contrast!
