Double Tool Cabinet
Made from walnut, birch, and Baltic birch, the cabinet has two sets of dovetailed, piano- hinged doors, one on top of the other, for more storage space. Tools can be mounted on all seven surfaces. Doors latch with hidden rare-earth magnets. I liked this cabinet so much I built another identical one and mounted it beside the first one. Each door is 16″ x 40″. First level depths are 1 3/8″ and 5/16″. Second level depths are 2 1/2″ and 4″.

Anacapa,
Excellent idea! Lots of 'wallspace'inside. I'd love to see more pictures.

Great idea :) Very effective use of your wall space! And I agree with Jonnieboy .... more pictures please. Keep up the good work!
Well that tool cabinet is so nice that I think you should make up some SketchUp drawings to share with the rest of us.

I agree. Some Sketchup drawings would be nice. Great piece.
Thanks very much for the kind comments and thumbs-up. Here are a couple more photos showing the cabinet closed and open to the first level. The description now includes the basic dimensions. Sorry I'm not a qualified Sketchup expert as yet. The joinery is somewhat novel, but not particularly complex and could easily be modified to suit the tools to be displayed.

I really like your cabinet. I've seen similar cabinets but they are usually too deep for my wall. I really like your design. Did you make the main cabinet first then added the second pair of doors after? Thanks for posting the photos and helping us with ideas for our shop.

Hi there. Really really like the storage which gets does away with clutter. Great job.
Hi, This is an excellent design of wall cabinet as it gives the maximum storage space for the volume. It deserves wider exposure. How about a full article for FW?
How are the outer doors hinged? To the outside surface of the carcase or the front edge of the carcase wall?
How is the second door hinged? To the inner surface of the carcase or where?
How thick are the case and door walls? They look like 7/8th inch? How thick are the panels?
I am in the process of making a similar cabinet from 7/8th inch sapele fixing the piano hinges for the outer doors to the front edge of the carcase and for the inner doors to a batten fixed to the inside surface. Overall the cabinet is 38 inches wide by 26 inches high. The outer doors give a 2 1/2" storage depth. The inner doors 1/2" on the front face, 1 3/4" on the back face and the main cabinet is 4 1/2" deep. I am including two antique drawers that I have restored at the bottom.
Your tools suggets you have an interest in carving as I do?
I would be glad if you could reply either here or via my email:
