An Asian inspired chest made entirely from reclaimed materials – even the metal for the hardware which I made as well. Joinery is pinned mortise & tenon. There are at least 6 different patterns applied to the chest and it was a real trick to integrate them harmoniously. I found it very easy to make them look quite bad together – there was a lot of drawing and redrawing to design them. Joining all of the many angles of the lid was also a challenge, and of course to age any freshly cut wood to keep everything looking old. The pattern work along the top was cut on the scroll saw and broke into at least a dozen pieces because the 1/8″ old wood was so fragile. They were then reassembled, glued and pin nailed on. Many, many hours on this one.
