To achieve the graduated drawer spacing, the original first drawer was repartitioned into the top two rows; the original second drawer height was reduced slightly into the third row; and the original third drawer is now the fourth row. The face frame was reworked from the original "cabinet" and two salvaged window jambs.
Part of remodelling our master bedroom closet required removing a built-in dresser and shelf unit. Although it defied most furniture-building conventions, it had lasted over one hundred years. However, because its parts were just nailed to the plaster wall (there was no carcase), I reworked it into a “real” piece of furniture that will hopefully last another century. All visible wood is reclaimed. The drawer runners, bottoms and pulls are new. Complete construction details here.
