Book Cases
This was my first bookcases/cabinet set. I know these aren’t the best looking bookcases but we’ve been through alot together. I built them offsite in a storage unit a contractor hired. A 10 x 20 with all my tools and lumber, space became tight. The bookcases I built to the specs of the room. I forgot to take in account the size of the door entering the room… the 2 corner ones were to big to fit through the door by 4” and there was now taking to door jamb out. 2 helpers and I tried every which way to get them in, it was not happening. The contractor called me and said we have a problem don’t we? My helper said just cut them in half. I could bearly believe the words coming out of his mouth I just spent a week building these cabinets, and in the worst of conditions. They turned out great and now he wants to cut them in half! I came up with the idea to take them out side lay them down so the back corner would be facing the sky, and with a straight edge I tipped my circular saw to 45 degrees and cut the back corner out about 4 inches down from the corner. Repeated this process on the otherside. So now i have an empty void in the back corner of these 2 cabinet. I took the only 2 pieces of plywood i had left ran them through the table saw to put 45 degree bevels on them. Glued and nailed them in place. Wow. It turned out so nice. they fit through the door perfectly with only 1/2 inch to spare. and now with a piece of angle plywood in the back corner it really gives the bookcases a new since of demension. instead of being perfectly square and bulky now they have a soften’d back corner and look great. Then I just had to cut the back corner off all the shelves that went in those cabinets. The doors are frame and panel with an applied moulding to the inside of the frame.
