This is a great piece! What inspired the design? What type of wood did you use -- ash, perhaps? (It is hard to tell from the photo on my screen.)
I would certainly expect that you received high marks for the design, workmanship, and functionality of this piece.
Well done.
Thanks for the kind words, Jurgen01. The design of the piece was inspired by the idea of wood being a living, dynamic thing that we often try (with limited success) to force into a more structured and square existence. I was playing with the idea of wood movement, and really wanted to show the dichotomy of a more structured, functional piece, while at the same time expressing the movement of wood. The bookcase is constructed of Hard Maple, with the top and right side consisting of 6 individual bent laminations, re-sawed and laid up on forms in a vacuum bag.
What a masterful piece! Your bookcase is one of the most unusual designs I ever came across. It takes one heck of an imagination and perseverance to make that idea happen. It is truly a masterful and extremely unusual piece!
