Harry Potter Wands
I turned these 15 1/4” long magic wands of Harry Potter influence for my eight-year-old daughter who is just finishing the 7th book. The top wand is made from highly figured birdseye maple and the bottom is made from bloodwood. The diameter on the narrow end is about 1/4” which made for a challenging spindle turning, eased somewhat by the use of a steady rest. Both wands are finished with a little amber shellac. I couldn’t find Phoenix tail for the core so they are left solid throughout.

You are still 5 wands behind. The going rate is one wand per book!
You keep up the good woodworking and tell her to keep up her good reading.
Don't tell my daughter. Actually my son got one of them without reading his fair share yet. I stayed up late to get his done before he woke up in the morning. Turning has never been my favorite but after turning a lot of chair parts, quite a few shaker pegs and drawer pulls. I have gotten a little better at spindle turning. Using the skew without catching was the big challenge. It was far better tunring these little wands just for the smile I received. Woodworking can be very gratifying that way. I am always impressed with the fine people that I share my passion with. Thanks for your heartfelt comment.
Nicely done, they look great! I inlaid contrasting materials into the handles of the ones I made and called that the 'magic' substance. For example, I inlaid a piece of red heart as dragon heart string.
Great idea! I wasn't that creative. I would love to see what you turned.
Wow! Nice wands! I'm not sure what impresses me more the detail on such a fragile piece or your 8 year olds reading level!! Great Work!
Thank you. The later also impresses me.
