Native American Flute
Native American Flute made from maple, and walnut for the carved bear top piece (bird) and leather straps. A 25″ x 3″x 3″ maple blank was cut in half lengthways, the sound chambers carved by hand, glued and turned on the lathe to finish. Sanded to 600 grit and finished with Danish Oil. Final dimensions 25″ x 2″ x 2″. Sounds great!

This is very impressive. How did you know the dimensions for the sound chamber? How about tuning?
Great Work!
Dear Harmonica,
Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated. The dimensions for this flute were taken from an existing design by Lee Lacroix. If you do not have existing dimensions, you can also drill the sound holes small, cut the flute to length, test the base note as you take incrementally more length off the end of the instrument (increasing the pitch of the note), and then tune each note (bottom to top) by increasing individual finger hole diameters.
It was a great project to work on, and it is very satisfying learning to play on an instrument you have made yourself.
Regards, Jim.
