Cherry Entertainment Center for 65″ DLP
Note back 6" of the side opens to allow access to cords. Top section of side can be removed to access rear of components.
Cherry entertainment center. 4 drawers are big enough to hold DVDs. Top extends 7″past the back of the cabinet. Sides have a 6″ panel on the back which open to allow access to cords, power supplies, and general connections. I chose to use 1/2″ cherry plywood top instead of solid to keep weight down and provide a very flat surface. Drawers hold >60 DVDs each

I am planning a very similar one out of Cherry as well, but using door/shelves instead of drawers. How much time/$ did this take?

Once I had it designed, it took me about 2 weeks to build. I could have built a second in about 1/2 the time. Cost was pretty reasonable. I used 1 sheet of 1/2" cherry plywood and 1 sheet of 1/4" plywood for the backs. All the drawer fronts and vertical pieces were shorts which the local mill sells for 50% off so they were pretty cheap. I would say I had <$200 in wood and another %50 in drawer slides and handles.
