“I’m FULL”
10 inch Buggy pecan vase. The log came from a pecan grove in South Central Georgia at Christmas time a few years ago. I noticed the look of drill holes within the log a few months later. When I realized that it was infested, I let the beetles chew for awhile. After fumigating the log 3 times, all beetles ware killed. The log was then turned and the holes (packed hard with sawdust-type material) were painstakingly cleaned out with dental instruments.

I just disposed of a bunch of wood that looked like that. I don't even know what kind of wood it is - I think it's Pepper. I was trying to find some bit of solidity in it by sawing parts of it off when I noticed little creepies that looked for all the world like maggots coming out of the holes. I removed all of it from my workspace and the back of my pickup and took it to the middle of the driveway and commenced hacking and splitting to see how full of the little ickies it was and killing them with ant spray. I gave up on finding any usable material and put it all in a Hefty bag and put it in the trash can. I did a little boning up thereafter on wood-eating bugs and determined that they're some sort of beetle.
Now, it's not too late to retrieve it. Tell me more about fumigating. And also, if you don't mind, how you managed to control such unstable material (very crumbly stuff, here) on your lathe. How did it not simply disintegrate?
