Dinning Room Table Base
This was an Elm Log that I rolled up onto my Oneway .. with some help from my friends. I pre carved some of the mass out with a chain saw on the out side … I turned between Centers and using a Woodcut .. the one with the adjustable Frog over the cutting head I turned out the end grain half way from one end and then half way from the other end leaving about a 3/4″ thickness that I “sawzed alled” out and then ground and sanded smooth … I let it dry for about 1 year and then remounted between centers using Jam chucks from both ends .. I then finished turned … It was one of those projects that I asked myself why in the xxxxxxx DID I EVER START THIS .. however the client was very pleased ..and so was I .. My insperation came from watching another Turner, Howard Lewin turn a similar piece for an end table …
