Chinese Style Cabinet
This was an all-hand tools project started in 2006 and completed in 2009. I used reclaimed walnut boards from old barns in Indiana and Missouri. The wood was wonderful to work with and had a deep rich natural color. I learned a number of Chinese joinery techniques in the process, based on the excellent book, “Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture: Ming and Early Qing Dynasties,” by Shixiang Wang. If you are interested in Asian design, this treatise is worth getting through your local library or else purchasing online.

very very cool. i really like this piece!
This is a really nice interpretation of classical Chinese woodwork -- and I agree with you about Wang's book on the subject. Simple artistry and subtle craftsmanship expresssed in a beautiful object. You have made a wonderful piece that will be treasured and admired for many years to come. Great work!
