chippendale lowboy
This is a project that came from Frank Gottshalls: “Making Furniture Masterpieces”. It took me 6 months to make and is made from rough sawn oak that I dried and planed. The legs feet front rail and front drawer are all hand carved. The four drawers have half blind dovetails. The leg columns were turned and fluted.

Oak isn't easy to carve. This piece took a lot of hours.
GREAT job, worth all your hard work
wow i can't believe how beautiful your low boy looks,i have the same book i got it about 20 years ago and ever since i have been looking at it with the idea of building the same low boy but never believing that my skills were at a level that i could tackle a proyect like this....somehow i feel more encouraged now....when i build mine i know it will have to be out of mahogany...any reason why you built yours out of oak? also do you happen to have any more pictures that show the process of building it? you tube or facebook maybe a video you made?....good luck and enjoy your low boy.
I built this out of oak because I had some oak left over from when I built my workbench. I do have a bunch of pictures from when I was building it but not on the internet.
The book is amazing, I think the most magnificent peice is the corner shell cupboard. Frank Gotshall was deifinetely talented, too bad there weren't more like him. His techniques for having a raised carving from a solid board are referred to as impossible by other professionals.
i think that the carving in front door should be below the surface not raised. this way it looks like i purchased the center door carving and glued it on the surface.
Wonderful..It is a masterpiece...Great finishing.
