Just how many ways can 9 interchangeable components be configured? Well into the hundreds… The permutations have not been fully calculated. The Chameleon allows true user manipulation. The unit consists of the static frame, 6 drawer boxes (3 colours, 2 sizes) and 3 display platforms. If one configuration is done per day, it may take up to 3 years to complete the cycle.
The first 4 photos only show a small fraction of the possible combinations that can be done with the Chameleon. Each drawer or display platform is keyed into the frame or each other via the dowel and groove detail.

Interesting design!
Love the colors too!
How many combinations? 9 factorial is the answer - 362880
casikamodern, thank you for sharing one of the best and most original ideas I have seen in years, and very well done too!
donjohn, you are in the right direction, but not exactly right. 9 factorial would be the number of ways to aline 9 objects in a linear way with no limits. here we have an x-y array, which would potentialy give us 9!^9! posibilities, but we also have many limitations which modifies our outcome somewhat.
in any case, the numbers are stuggering, and If you could make one array per hour, you would not cover all the posibilities in your lifetime. maybe not even before the sun burns out. talking about eternity always makes me sad, i'll go build something now to cheer up.
thank you all for sharing and keep up the good work!
