Virginia lamp table
My first piece of furniture. Lots of mistakes but overall an incredibly satisfying learning experience. I couldn’t have made it without all the info I found on FWW.com. I used Carlyle Lynch’s “Antique Furniture found in Virginia” as the plans. This piece was based on a Virginia antique, it was made from walnut grown in Virginia and it was crafted (if you can apply that word to my work) in Virginia. I finished it with raw linseed oil cut with mineral spirits and beeswax, a formula I have used on walnut gunstocks. I didn’t have any 8/4 stock for the legs so I glued up two pieces of 4/4 since this was a learning experience and even though it’s not as pretty as a solid leg it gets the job done. I stood on the finished frame after glue up and my 230 lbs didn’t seem to bother it. Not quite the torture test that Sam Maloof used on his first piece when he threw it off the roof onto the driveway, but I think it will hold up.

Love it. (I'm from the commonwealth so... I'm biased.) I'd like seeing projects in walnut.
