Walnut and Scorched Ash Jewelry Case
This is a jewelry chest I made last holiday season for a friend. It is composed of scorched ash and walnut with hand-carved, plain ash handles and ash drawers. No stains were used to attain the colors and it is finished with four coats of a simple, high-gloss rub-on urethane.
The drawer faces follow the curve of the sides and are joined to the drawers by a hidden mortise and tenon. The drawers themselves are dovetailed. The rest of the piece uses mortise and tenon joinery. The doors, upper compartment and top four drawers are lined with various black velvet jewelry liners to hold earrings, rings and bracelets. The remaining drawers are unlined.

I like the overall design and the details. Nice curves. The person who receives this jewelry chest will treasure it for a long time, as will their children. Scorching the wood for a color change is a very interesting idea and it turned out great. Terrific work.
