The Least of These
The desktop is made of scrub oak veneer (about 3/16 thick) top and bottom laminated to a birch and fir veneer core. The seams of the veneer layers are, as you can see, not straight because the tree wasn’t straight. In this way I utilized a lot more of the tree and also created a much more interesting effect. The seaming board to make this was a head scratcher to say the least.
The oystering was about a two-day project, which included the making of the jigs and patterns. Suffice it to say that it involved the use of a router with a flush trim bit, a pattern bit, some vacuum clamping, super glue, urea resin, a mold and a hundred clamps.
The stained glass and the stone… the stained glass isn’t anything special but, I’m pretty sure the stone is actually a piece of brick from a building. In Zoagli, Italy that was demolished by the allied forces in WWII. Washed upon onto the beach a zillion plus times, it became polished and caught my eye a couple of years ago

wow! I wouldn't even know where to start on something like this, let alone design it! Beautiful job.
Awesome! Great proportions and excellent design. Very bold idea, and I hope the people who have the pleasure to see it in real life appreciate the technical effort and expertise….
Nicely done.
