Marquetry Clock
This is a Christmas present for my wife this year — she has always been in love with clocks having Westminster chimes. The clock face was created from contrasting veneers along the design concept in the article by John Sedgwick — see also the Marquetry Society of Canada website at http://www.marquetrysociety.ca. The 24-point star was cut into a background veneer of burl walnut and then applied to one face of a 1/4″ sheet of MDF with a quilted maple veneer for the other side to balance the stresses. The cocobolo frame was rabbeted to accept the clock face, and cocobolo blocks were added to provide a mounting mechanism for the clock on a wall. The quartz movement is from the German manufacturer Hermle.
