Sled for Grandson
Grandson’s first Christmas present from Papa.
I decided that I needed to build a suitable gift for my 9 month old grandson’s first Christmas. A pull sled would be something enjoyed by him as well as his parents. It would incorporate my metal working trade skills for the stainless steel runners as well as my woodworking and upholstery skills. Past boat building skills came into play as well during the steam bending of the maple skis and Ash chair backs. The hand cut and draw bored mortise and tenon joints on the posts are a new skill learned during this project. All other fastenings are bronze or brass. Finish is 3 coats of water-borne exterior poly. Although my intent was a utilitarian object, I couldn’t help myself from migrating toward fine furniture quality to show how much my grandson means to me.

What a great piece. Definitly a sled to be passed down thru the generations.
Thanks mwiley, I have to say the same for the motorcycle rocker you built for your grandaughter, great piece. Grandkids bring a whole new satisfaction to woodworking.
