The challenge was to limit right angles as much as possible, and to give it a contrasting heavy/light feel.  Hard to see in the photos, but the sycamore legs have the nice fish scale grain that works with the curves to soften their thickness, and a nice chatoyance.  Plus, the gap between the top & the legs is subtle unless you lean down to look, so it gives a good, almost odd, floating illusion.   Much nicer to see in person.

 

The rosewood is Bolivian with lots of worm holes and that great almost spalted grain look that some boards of this species take on.  The strip inlay was an afterthought to hide an especially large worm hole that chipped out on the jointer.  If you can’t fix it, feature it!

 

Finish is Waterlox Original.  Rubbed wax on the top as well.
