Knife Display Case

My younger brother’s wife “commissioned” me to make this knife display case for him as a Christmas gift. The case (12″ wide by 16″ high) is made from walnut scraps from a large project I made using lumber cut decades ago from my father-in-law’s farm in Ohio. The shelves are made from cherry scraps left over from a set of bookcases I made for my wife.
The case sides were joined to the top and bottom with hand-cut through dovetails.
The finish includes stain and many coats of shellac, each rubbed out with 0000 steel wool, completed with an application of paste wax and buffed.
My brother, who is also a hobbyist woodworker, now has the case filled with his collection of pocket knives.

It's a very nice piece of work. I especially like the unique 'through' dovetail joinery.

Thanks to kunzstl and topscoach for your compliments. After working on a large project or piece of furniture, I find it really enjoyable to build a small cabinet or piece like this. And hand tool work is always fun!
