After putting in 35 years with a telephone company I retired and found myself with enough time to start getting serious about my hobbies and the toys they bring with them. This was not first on the list but when it came along I knew I had to get it. I had to work out assorted details the shipping and before I knew it many weeks had passed. The truck arrived with my pallet but with my driveway being too steep for a large truck I knew I would need to haul it down the hill in the back of my pickup. I backed up to the lift gate and we shoved the pallet into the back of my truck and I let out a sigh of relief. Finally I said , the truck driver looked at me and said ” how long have you been waiting?” I could not resist – I just looked at him and smiled and said – since I was about 14 – after seeing this saw in my first wood shop class. I think it was worth the wait.

I figured this would be my once in a life time chance to take pictures of my unloading of a saw like this so here they are. After all this time I was not taking anything for granted and took my time rigging the pallet with chains and safety bolts
with a winch attached to a 4 inch piece of channel iron spanning four ceiling joists and the 4x12 garage door header and additional 2x12 propped up with two 2x4s I slowly raised the saw off the bed of the truck and waved the truck forward - with my saw now dangling several feet above the concrete with nothing but air between them - I decided this is it ! Time to snap a few.
This is with the addition of the right side table extension and the extruded aluminum for the fence and table support.
I ordered a piece of 304 stainless steel for the extension top and although it was shipped sandwiched between two sheets of 1/2 inch OSB it still suffered two bent corners. So some times you have to work the metal before you can get to the wood , after I had it pretty well straightened out I laminated it to the inch and a half plywood top.
Almost done with the saw - just a little more to do , but it wont be visible so here is what I end up with. Five drawers and a roller in the back of the saw instead of an out feed table since floor space is still an issue. Yes the drawer fronts are 304 stainless steel too , you know once you get a theme working - it's not hard to keep it going.
Congrats, I remember when I brought home my unisaw, like a new girlfriend, I couldn't take my eyes off her. that was 19 years ago and I still cant walk by without touching the cold cast iron.
I bought a used Unisaw from a mobile home manufacturer that had switched to a panel saw and had three of them sitting outside getting rusty. I think I paid $200 for it in 1978 and am still using it. Cleaned off the rust and it still works great.(new belts and bearings in that time of course but a real workhorse). Have fun, be safe!
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement from all of you.
It sure is easy to become an avid fan of their products isn't it.
I am still amazed at the quality of every cut and find I am looking forward to the next time I need to use it.
I have read all I can find about the saw and was extremely patient before using it for the first time.
I checked and double checked everything - (four or five times) , followed all the tune up instructions I could find-
I also ran a new circuit complete with it's own fused disconnect.
Then after my first cut I naturally had to do the stand the nickel on end test.
I probably had a half a dollar standing on that saw and yes it passed - then I had to laugh when all the coins were being blown over by the wind from the blade turning , now that I hadn't considered.
Donbean46 I absolutely know what you mean I am the only one I know who has an eight by ten glossy of a saw in his truck so if anyone wants to see a picture of "my sweetie" I can show them. That's like I have said most people have pictures of girlfriends and cars but . . .
Well I am a little envious , you all combined have at least 51 more years of experience with this saw than I do - so I had better go and try to catch up with you.
With its graceful curves, cabriole legs, and ornamental back splat, a Queen Anne side chair is a bucket list build for many woodworkers. Dan Faia had a very specific Queen…
