Shopmade Spindle Sander
Material required: 3/4” MDF, electric motor 1/4 HP, switch and electric wire, screws and glue, drum sanding kit and a motor shaft adaptor (from Lee Valley (68K0501, 68k0202, 68Z0201). I bought the motor at a flea market or at a yard sale for $10.
The motor is vertically screwed to one side, plumb. I used shims to get it 90° to the table top.
I asked a welder to elongate the chuck key with a 6″-long 3/8″ bolt. He did it for free (it’s my son-in-law).
It works great! See this project from my website.
Best,
Serge

Nice!! I'm going to lay it on its side with a table parallel to the motors axis, adjustable, guided, terminated with a bearing on the end of the shaft and a vacume hood. Looks like a great IDEA. Erin Electrical Engineer and wood worker. Thanks for the tip!!! AND I WELD also ha, COOL!
