Cherry and Mahogany Valet Box
This valet was made from cherry and mahogany. I love the way these two similarly colored woods compliment each others reddish tones.
This valet has corner posts and a raised panel in the center of the lid made of mahogany, and sides and lid frame of cherry. The hinges are shaped cherry dowels, and brass washers are used as spacers to keep the lid fitting snugly. The lid lift is also mahogany.
The interior bottom is covered with vinyl. I chose vinyl over leather because as a synthetic it is more humane. I designed this box so that the bottom liner can be easily removed and replaced if torn or worn.
I used Danish Oil as a finish, and then hand polished the exterior with wax for a natural, semi-gloss sheen that really allows the wood grain and colors to stand out!
The valet measures 3.5 inches high, 11 inches across the front, and 8.25 inches on the sides.
Thanks for looking!

Hi Terry, my name is Dave, nice to meet ya and check out your work. My sister just happened to be in from Florida while I was looking at this box and she loved it. Also pretty cool to see your from Chicago as well. So My mom is going to visit my sister next month and I thought it would be really cool to try and make this box for her to bring to my sister as a surprise. I've only been woodworking(hand tools) for about a year now and don't have many projects yet. I wanted to know how is the corners joined to the posts? I was also wondering if at all possible and ya didn't mind, if you could send me a couple more pics and any details. If not, it's totally cool, my email is "[email protected]" I'm in the south suburbs. Do you know of any woodworking clubs or anything? ttyl
