Tuscan Elegance Dinette Table
I was called to build 2 tables for my customer and when I went to visit him I found a Tuscan theme throughout his home. The staircase was fully paneled and the custom wrought iron railing finished it off. I drew from this look and from the rope accents of the family room furniture to bring this design to life. I started with a Rope Turned Maple post. After cutting to the proper length I formed stub tenons to register the base and the top. I made the base from a 3/4″ Maple plywood cutting a round core with a router. I then banded the plywood with Solid Birdseye Maple and attached the bun feet with 1″ dowels. I made the top in a similar way cutting a circle from 3/4″ Maple Plywood to form the core I then cut the 1″ Birdseye into segments and used a jig to form the segments of Birdseye into their round shape. I then cut a round rabbit in the Birdseye ring to fit the round plywood core and rounded over the underside. To assemble I glued up the base first then the top seperatly, then put the top on the base using the tennon to align it to center. Finally it got a stain blend to match the staircase paneling and finished with several coats of Laquer and the wrot iron accents were attached with screws. This was a good project to build with some chalenging aspects but not so difficult to build again.
