Wenge veneer table
We wanted a table which would accommodate occasional large groups but dont really like extension tables. I made these two tables from wenge veneer and a small amount of solid timber. When spread apart they can fit up to 12 people, with people sitting on all sides. When pushed together they look like one large table. Everyone is intrigued by the effect.
I’ve called it my own design, but really the idea has been around for a while.

Very nice work. I really like the color and the design. Did you use a stain? What did you use for finish? What are the dimensions?
Dermer
Hi Dermer. There was no stain used - its just the natural wenge colour. The finish is just several coats of sanding sealer, sanded back hard, then a single coat of varnish mixed with an additive called Penetrol (which is used to prevent brush and lap marks). The dimensions of the two tables pushed together are 2200 x 1150 - chosen to fit our dining room. Its 760 high. The legs are 76mm square at the top tapering to 60mm square at the bottom. The thickness of the top is 50mm.
cheers
