Greene and Greene Inspired Mahjong Table
Inspired by Greene and Greene’s design vocabulary, I built this mahogany Mahjong table as a commission for a game room. It includes the Blacker style leg, cloud lift details, and proud finger jointed drawers with ebony pins. Housed mortise and tennons join the apron to the legs also with proud ebony pins. The drawers include dividers for poker chips. The top is covered in pool table felt secured by the mahogany and upholstered arm rests. Unseen in the photos, the top forms the outline of a tsuba. Secondary wood for drawer runners is maple. The finish is aniline dye, my own tung oil, boiled linseed oil and wax in mineral spirits blend, top coated with orange shellac and antique mahogany tinted wax. Construction time: 350 hours.
Special thanks to Darrell Peart’s wonderful book,
