Sleigh Crib
This was my first dive into a major woodworking project. After my wife and I found out that she was pregnant, I wanted to make a crib for my daughter and hopefully make it a family heirloom. It’s made of solid red oak, lightly stained, and two coats of poly. My local wood supplier (GW Woods – Victor, NY) cut all the wood S4S which helped tremendously. The mortise and tenon joinery was done with my table saw, drill press, and a chisel. I can see why people buy benchtop mortisers after squaring up all 84 mortise and tenon joints! The curved top is made up of four pieces glued together and the curved vertical rail is all one piece. Its pretty heavy and should hold up to my daughter’s abuse as she gets older. While it did take me a bit of time to do it, this project definitely kicked up my confidence and increased by desire to do more with woodworking.
