Another Claro Walnut Slab Table
Well OK … We just finished another big claro walnut slab table. We’ve made quite a few of them now and there is more information about them in the ‘claro walnut slab table’ category on my blog than a person could likely want to read. (If not, be sure to scroll to ‘older posts’). But, we like them. They always seem to have this mysterious sense of substance to them when they are completed. The wood is dark and deep and totally unpredictable in its grain and color. We like the steel bases too. This one is cut from 1.75” thick steel plate and looks a little shinier in the picture above than it is in person. There was a little sunlight sneaking in the door when I took the picture and, reflected off the floor, it made the base look pretty impressive. Actually, it’s clean, but not real reflective and is meant to match the ‘zinc’ counters in the client’s kitchen … We figure conservatively that the table weighs about 400 pounds or so assembled, and I am unable to pick one end off the floor without feeling like I might hurt something … For shipping to Montana, the slab will unbolt from the base and the 5 part steel base will be disassembled. More, bigger, and in process photos on my dorset custom furniture blog.

Very nice table!
I have a friend here in So Cal that cuts slabs from the city logging operation he has as a hobbie using his stilth chain saw 60" blade as his standard bar lenght. He has been collecting claro walnut, silver maple, Eucalyptus, Chinese elm, sugar pine & Carob wow that’s some heavy wood. He say’s some day would like to have a shop to make some tables. His entire back yard is filled with slab’s I told him that he needs to start selling some of his fruit from his labor and he could have that shop sooner than later.
The above slab list is only what I know he has milled
Dan's chairs and slab tables (wishbone bases) look just like the BDDW ones http://bddw.com/furniture/table/slab_tabl10.html
What is the origin of this cast table base and the chair design?
