Art Deco Club Chair
My first attempt at a fully upholstered chair, I chose to re-interpret a design by Erie Sarrinen. From a photo no bigger than a postage stamp, I scaled the piece and change some elements(legs, arms, crest rail) to suit my own taste. Again returning to my training in Early American Empire for the front legs as well as the scrolled crest rail. The original called a ‘cube chair’ was just that and I wanted to add a little flair and curvature to it. The photo was in black and white, so I copied the veneer work (which fully wraps around) only in style not in choice of woods. Following the Art Deco credo of the finest materials available I used Air Dried Walnut ( harvested from the Loyola Univ. Campus) Birds eye Maple, and Ribbon Mahogany. The fully upholstered interior was done in leather.
