two monkeys and a surfboard
This design was inpsired purely by the need to have a place to sit down and take my shoes off. It also had to fit the confines of my front hall. With the criteria set, I had some fun with some nice scraps of Tiger Maple, and Air Dried Walnut. The base was an experiment with the way Sam Maloof would make one joinery element seamlessly flow into the next. Its essentially a trestle table base w/ the joinery bandsawn and spoke shaved into a continueous curve. The seat , originally one 15″ wide piece of Tiger maple was split in half and pegged down to the seat rail that has been beveled 5 degrees to the center. Do the “california roundover treatment” to the whole piece and presto. 4 hrs of sanding and 8 coats of Sam’s Poly/ Oil finishes it off

I love the title, and that the monkeys share one tail
