Arts and Crafts speaker stands
I have an old pair on BIC Formula 4 speakers that have been an eyesore since I can remember. They sound great, but are huge, bulky and covered in a hideous imitation walnut vinyl sheet. Since I was building a media cabinet to go with the new TV, I thought I would build some speaker stands to match and veneer the speakers to boot.
The bandsawn cherry veneer used to cover the speakers is from the same tree that provided the wood for the media cabinet top (see the cabinet elsewhere in this site). It is secured to the particle board speaker cabinets with a cold press veneer glue. I used sheets of MDF and cinder block weights with randomly placed pipe clamps to clamp it down.
The stands are standard mortise and tenon construction, with a floating bottom panel. The accents are ebony and ebonized walnut.
The finish is 1 coat of Minwax Antique Oil, 2 or more coats of Minwax wipe on gloss poly, scuffed and then waxed. All of the stand pieces were finished before they were assembled.

Michael666,
Beautiful work. Beautiful cherry.
I have a set of JBL L112 that currently use stools. You have provided me with an idea for a set of stands.
Thanks,
Steve
Very nice work, I have been planning this type of project for a while. I will be happy if mine comes out close to being as nice as yours.
