Keepsake Walnut Coffee Table
Loosely inspired from Federal Style furniture, this solid walnut coffee table was built for a customer who wanted to display keepsakes of their family vacations. The top features an inlay strip that goes around the perimeter. It was installed so the arrowhead in the pattern direct the eye to the corners. The drawers open from either sides and are slightly shorter than the width of the table so they appear recessed into the apron. The drawer fronts have bookmatch grain, which I built by slicing 1/8” thick bookmatch veneer pieces and gluing them to 3/4” thick solid walnut pieces. The drawer bottom are frame and panel construction. The bottom of the apron is wrapped with a cock bead housed in a rabbet. The 1 1/2” square legs are tapered on all four sides and have a 3/4” wide inlay strip above the taper. It is 52” long x 26” wide x 15” high. Finished with polymerized tung oil.
