   It seems wierd to say that a bench is beautiful, but it is. I have had a Lie-Nielsen for about 8 mos and I love it. I have a friend with a Benchcrafted workbench, they do occasionally make a sell them, and he loves it. If I ever build a bench this would be what I would strive for. Great Job.

   Great looking work bench ! Way to go !
   Any way we could see another photo of the middle area of the bench where it is "split" ? Do the halves move or are they fixed?

   roc,
   I have added a picture of the center piece which is called a gap stop. It's a planing stop when its in the up position and It's flat and even with the front and back portions of the bench top when it's flipped over. In this picture it's in the up position. I built this one to be about 3/8" above the bench top. Also the gap stop slots can be used as tool holders for chisels, saws etc. The front and back bench tops are fixed and do not move. They are connected to the base with massive mortise and tenons and fixed with large Spax bolts,(which have slotted holes to allow for wood movement).
