Desk top tool chest
This is my second toolbox I have posted this year. My previous box I posted this spring. I wanted a small toolbox for my finer tools that would set on a desk or table.
The top drawers are magnetically latched with a hidden brass slide bar. each drawer has a brass screw that fits into a keyhole slot on the brass bar.
The box is made from mahogany with maple trim and popular for the drawer. I made the tray arms from brass strips. The center slots hold a assortment of color marked pliers. the center hole holds a small anvil encircled by punches.
The box is 16 1/2″ wide by 11 inches deep by 10″ tall.

Beautiful work! How do the drawers stay shut when you flip the top closed or open? Also, doesn't everything fall to the front of the drawers?
Ok so I went back and read the entry about the clasp, but doesn't the stuff still slide to the front?
Most of the tools that are in the top drawers are in tool rolls, like my moody tool set or in cases that are foam lined like my magnifiers. I planned to put such things up there from the start. I also have felt lined drawers.
When I open it all I hear is the sound of the magnet latches.
I made this design to begin experimenting with the idea of a multiple fold open box.
My first tool chest has a inner drill box that folds open with drill trays in the lid that open up further.
I planned to make a jewelry box that opens up in much the same way but with vertical double doors with drawers in each door. Its in the drawing stage.

One thing I learned from this design in it needs some very small magnets in the back of each drawer to act as a detent to ensure the drawers are fully closed upon closing the top.
This is how we learn Right?
