This was an anniversary gift for my wife. Walnut and Hard maple. Case was from pieces of 12/4 stock and the bottom (hidden by the leg assembly) is dovetailed like the top.
The uniqueness of this piece is that the top face panel is a secret cedar-lined drawer that unlocks when the drawers are in a certain position and a button is pressed on the bottom of the case.

Are the sides 12/4 like the picture suggests? Heavy!!! Looks very nice!
Yes, they are solid all the way through as the picture suggests. This was actually more than an asthetic choice. In order to have room for the "tumbler" that supports the combination lock the sides had to be quite thick.
I'll look for a picture of the unit unassembled for clarity... now that it's assembled and glued it can't be taken apart due to how I did the drawer stops. This protects the combination from being figured out.
