Blanket chest
This is my version of Peter Turner’s blanket chest which was a recent FWW project. I had some beautiful maple boards with nice figure but many cracks, knots and flaws that worked well for the legs and rails because I could cut around the defects. I used mdf for the floating panels so that I could use shop made spalted maple veneer on the outside and cedar on the inside. The sliding tray is made from walnut and birdseye maple with a solid curly maple bottom. The finish is BLO followed by shellac on the inside and catalyzed lacquer on the outside.

Looks very nice! The stiles and rails at first glance almost resemble cherry. Nicely done!
Beautiful. I was going to say the spalted panels set it off but the frames are just as nice.
Absolutely beautiful. I am going to make one for my daughter. Isn't imitation the greatest form of flatery? Is it possible that you could tell me where you sourced the spalted maple? And did you stain the stiles and rails? I agree they look like cherry.
