Drawer Module for Jewelry Armoire
The two outside drawers on this drawer unit are curved and pivot when opened, as opposed to pulling straight out. The front of the drawers are formed from a single bent lamination with a 36″ radius. The inner drawer sides (left side of the drawerin the photo) is also a bent lamination with a 12″ radius.
The main wood in this project is Lyptus. The drawer sides are made from some curly maple that I discover in a batch of 1/2″ maple sold as common drawer stock (for $3 bf). The handles are made from brass and Walnut.
I did not know what I was getting into when I decided to use dovetails on curved drawers, not realizing that the curved parts would not fit into my dovetail machine. Instead, I had to make several custom templates to route the pins and tails. I explain more about this issue in this video blog:
