A very fun project, that is also a great way to use up scraps. I found a similar shelf made by Matt Downer, and the simple elegance made this a must for me to build. I chose different species, and completely added my own spin on the details. The joinery is a great skill builder working strictly with hand tools as well. Careful layout, and execution of the mortises for the Bocote wedges, ensures each shelf will sit square to the spine. What appeals most to me is there is no glue, and the only modern fasteners are the two screws that anchor this piece to the wall.
