Description: Style: Asian-inspired, Type: Cabinet Entertainment Center;
Needing a cabinet base for my TV and to house my VCR, DVD, Satellite Box,
Amplifier electronics, and storage space, I crafted the cabinet matching the lattice work of a china cabinet I recently made. The cabinet is my own design using quartersawn white oak and ¾ inch plywood for the carcass bottom. The shelves were made with ½ inch birch plywood with white oak trim facings. The 3 sliding doors lattice work were fabricated from 4/4 1-1/2 inch White Oak strips by rough band sawing the modular curved design, finishing the strips on a router table using my designed template jig; thence, cutting the strips in half, reversing one half and gluing the halves together, and mounting the assembly into 1-1/16 inch frames. The door’s top and bottom edges were rabbit cut and fitted into two grooved oak tracks. The center door slides behind the left and right doors.
Unit was finished following FW’s “Tabletop Finish”, Issue 214, using Zinsser’s Bulls Eye Seal Coat Shellac, Miniwax’s Clear Polyurethane, and finish buffing off with 3 coats of Gel Topcoat.
Targets: Cabinet, Entertainment Center, Asian-inspired, White Oak, Quartersawn, Lattice work.
